Reasons not to adopt or get a pet:
Because you are lonely; To teach a child how to be responsible; Because you feel sorry for the dog/cat in the pet store or shelter; Because your home or property needs protection; As a surprise gift or Because your child wants one.
Lost and Found

Occasionally we get lost and found pets turned in to our shelter. If you have lost your pet please post flyers anywhere you can, call all of the shelters and vet clinics in your area and check with the City Pound (210) 207-6650.
* You can also call: Man & Beast at (210) 590-7387 and post an ad on SApet.com or Pets911.com and check Petharbor.com
* If you have found a pet without tags take them to the nearest veterinary clinic or shelter to be scanned for a micro-chip and check for flyers that may have been posted.
* There is a reclaim fee for lost pets returned to owners which the owner must pay when picking up their pet from us. If it is a reoccuring event we may have to contact the Animal Services.
* Pets not claimed within 72 hours become property of Animal Friends.

What's included in our adoptions:

All applicable and required
vaccinations, deworming (if needed) spay or neuter surgery and a micro-chip.

All pets are examined by a veterinarian upon arrival. Pets arriving at the shelter needing medical treatment or heartworm treatement are treated at the shelter's expense.

We also have an open door policy with our adopters to ensure that you and the pet are happy and form a bond.

What is the adoption process:

All interested parties are required to fill out an appliation for any of the animals at our facility.

A visit and brief interview is then set up to make sure it is a good match. Our goal is to make sure that the pet is going to the right home for his/her personality, energy level, quirks and history. We also want to make sure the pet is the best fit for you.

Some of our pets may require a home visit to be done.

What if the adoption does not work out?

Any adoption that does not work out, for any reason, must be returned to us. Please call first to arrange a return.
