The numbers are staggering. . . More than 50,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized each year in San Antonio. As a "no-kill" shelter, Animal Friends is working to save as many of those lives as we can.

We are teaming up with S.A.S.S. (San Antonio Street Saves) to help even more dogs in need and expand our mission. S.A.S.S. helps injured and stray dogs not only by rescuing them off the street but rehabilitating them, getting them ready for their forever home. This collaboration of resources will increase the opportunities for both groups to help more animals and make a bigger impact on our city.

What We Do:

Provide an escape from certain death for hundreds of dogs and puppies in our community by providing temporary shelter and care until loving homes can be found. 

• At a no-kill shelter, pets are not euthanized because of space restrictions or their appearance
• Giving unwanted pets a second chance for adoption, saving lives that others toss away 
• Micro-chipping all pets offered for adoption to ensure they can be returned if they become lost
• Surgical spaying/neutering of all shelter pets to prevent unwanted animals and help them live long, healthy lives
• All pets offered for adoption are fully vaccinated
• Help educate the community on proper pet care and provide resources for those with questions
• Help those "more challenging" dogs get a chance at finding their forever home.  
• Provide rehabilitation and treatment for those dogs traumatized by abuse, neglect or injury

  Animal Friends is a 501(c)3 non-profit Texas corporation. All donations are tax deductible.

  Our History

Animal Friends was established as a no-kill shelter in May of 2000, devoted to helping the homeless and unwanted animals in this city find responsible, loving homes. Animal Friends is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit Texas corporation. We do not receive any city or county funding and survive solely on public donations and adoption fees. We have changed locations a few times but our mission never changed, and never will.

 Meet Layla

Layla is the sweetest girl ever. She is very playful, loves play "tag" and getting her belly rubbed. She listens well, loves going for walks, loves people and catching sun rays. She should probably be the only girl in your life, but she promises to be the best. Just look at that face.
