Animal Friends Humane Society

The numbers are staggering. . . More than 50,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized each year in San Antonio. As a "no-kill" shelter, Animal Friends is working to save as many of those lives as we can.

Did you know. . . . for just $10 per week you can feed 5 of our dogs for that week.

What We Do

Animal Friends provides an escape from certain death for hundreds of dogs and puppies in our community by providing temporary shelter and care until loving homes can be found. 

• At a no-kill shelter, pets are not euthanized because of space restrictions or their appearance
• Giving unwanted pets a second chance for adoption, saving lives that others toss away 
• Micro-chipping all pets offered for adoption to ensure they can be returned if they become lost
• Surgical spaying/neutering of all shelter pets to prevent unwanted animals and help them live long, healthy lives
• All pets offered for adoption are fully vaccinated
• Help educate the community on proper pet care and provide resources for those with questions  

  Animal Friends is a 501(c)3 non-profit Texas corporation. All donations are tax deductible.

Update:

Once again there have been allegations against our shelter that have no truth. First, we have NOT been evicted from our new location and are still operating as usual. Second, all donations made to our shelter go toward caring for the dogs at our facility and our operations. We welcome anyone with questions or concerns to stop by or call us anytime.The individuals who find it necessary for this constant harrassment are only hurting the animals, not the humans.

 Our History 

Animal Friends wasestablished as a no-kill shelter in May of 2000, devoted to helping the homeless and unwanted animals in this city find responsible, loving homes. Animal Friends is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit Texas corporation. We do not receive any city or county funding and survive solely on public donations and adoption fees. We have changed locations a few times but our mission will continue no matter where we are. 

Several allegations have been made against our organization in 2011, none of which have been proven to be true. If anyone has any concerns or questions you are more than welcome to contact us anytime. The truth always prevails.
